Code of Ethical Practice

As an education provider, I am committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct in all interactions with clients, course participants, colleagues, and the wider health and fitness community. This Code of Ethical Practice reflects my commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, respectful, and evidence-informed learning environment.

1. Do No Harm

I will prioritise the health, safety, and wellbeing of all clients and course participants. My teaching and professional practice will be guided by the principle of "do no harm," ensuring that exercises, education, and advice are delivered safely and responsibly.

2. Work Within Scope of Practice

I will teach within my qualifications, knowledge, and professional scope of practice. I will also encourage course participants to understand and work within their own scope of practice and refer clients to appropriately qualified health professionals whenever required.

3. Maintain Professional Boundaries

I will establish and maintain clear professional boundaries with clients, course participants, and colleagues. I will not engage in any behaviour that could be considered exploitative or inappropriate, including:

  • Inappropriate physical contact.
  • Financial exploitation.
  • Sexual harassment or sexual exploitation.
  • Any conduct that compromises professional integrity or the safety of others.

4. Respect Confidentiality

I will protect the privacy and confidentiality of all personal and professional information obtained through teaching or client interactions. Confidential information will only be disclosed when required by law or with informed consent.

5. Encourage Appropriate Medical Care

I will recognise the limits of my professional role and refer clients or course participants to medical or allied health professionals whenever signs, symptoms, or circumstances indicate that further assessment or treatment is necessary.

6. Promote Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

I will provide an inclusive and welcoming environment that is free from discrimination, harassment, or bullying. I will treat every individual with dignity and respect regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, culture, religion, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or any other protected characteristic.

7. Foster Respectful Professional Relationships

I will treat clients, colleagues, industry peers, and course participants with honesty, fairness, courtesy, respect, and integrity. I will communicate professionally and support a positive learning environment that encourages collaboration and lifelong learning.

8. Comply with Legal and Professional Requirements

I will comply with all applicable legislation, regulations, and professional standards, including those relating to business practices, employment, privacy, copyright, and intellectual property.

9. Demonstrate Professional Conduct

I will maintain a professional appearance, behave respectfully at all times, and conduct myself in a manner that reflects positively on the profession and the education services I provide.

10. Represent Qualifications Honestly

I will accurately represent my qualifications, certifications, professional memberships, experience, identity, and services. I will not make false or misleading claims regarding my expertise or the outcomes of my courses.

11. Commit to Continuing Professional Development

I recognise that learning is an ongoing responsibility. I will actively pursue continuing education and professional development to maintain current knowledge, strengthen my skills, and provide high-quality, evidence-informed education and services.

12. Maintain Safe Learning Environments

I will ensure that appropriate teacher-to-student ratios are maintained in practical learning environments to maximise participant safety, provide effective supervision, and support quality education.

13. Uphold Evidence-Informed Practice

I will strive to deliver education that is informed by current research, clinical reasoning, and recognised best practice while acknowledging the evolving nature of health and exercise science. I will encourage critical thinking and responsible application of knowledge.

By adhering to this Code of Ethical Practice, I demonstrate my commitment to professionalism, ethical leadership, participant safety, and excellence in education. I will continually review and improve my practice to uphold the values and standards expected of an AUSactive and Pilates Association of Australia Course Provider.
