Why Pilates Matters for Osteoporosis and Osteopenia?
Â
Bone density naturally declines from around age 30, and this loss accelerates after menopause—sometimes up to 30% more bone loss. The good news is that Pilates can help build and maintain bone strength at any age—even into your 80s. While it’s especially important for women, men benefit too. By incorporating weight-bearing and resistance-based exercises, Pilates helps improve posture, strengthen glutes, and extend the spine.
Bones respond to consistent, safe loading—becoming stronger and denser over time, a principle known as Wolff’s Law. In essence, when bones are challenged through exercise, they remodel and adapt to handle the load, increasing their strength and resilience. Investing in bone health through Pilates supports both you and your clients, helping maintain mobility, independence, and overall well-being.
